Transport in porous media

3MT130

About this course

After having first introduced the basic concepts, we will consider a number of themes based on articles:
moisture and ion transport in porous media, water/oil transport, fire behaviour, hydrology and drying of porous media.

Learning outcomes

This course is meant as a first introduction and provides a basic theoretical background for modeling transport phenomena engaged in various engineering projects. Basic concepts covered are: porosity, capillary pressure, permeability and Darcy flow in saturated and unsaturated media.
