The focus of Animal Sciences is on animals that are kept by humans for specific reasons, such as for food production, companionship, education, sports, etc. The general aim of Animal Sciences is to study and optimize the functioning of animals with respect to their health and welfare, their function for humans and their impact on environment and society. Courses in Animal Sciences typically deal with farm animals, companion animals, zoo animals and various other groups of animals, including aquatic animals at an 'over-species' level. This BSc minor provides an introduction to the broad field of Animal Sciences as well as comprehensive knowledge in the Animal Sciences disciplines Epidemiology, Adaptation Physiology and Nutrition. This BSc minor is a programme minor.

  • Recognize and understand the structure and differences between various animal (production) sectors

  • Explain how animals regulate their body temperature and immune status, and how they can adapt to various external and internal factors that may affect their health and wellbeing

  • Understand the types of diseases, pathogen transmissions and preventive measures

  • Understand eradication and/or prevention of diseases based on epidemiological and economic criteria

  • Analyse the influence of nutrition and feeding on health and functioning of various animal species
